Why Study Nursing in Canada?
So you’ve decided on nursing as a career and are weighing your options for study. Perhaps you’re pondering exactly what type of program will suit you and where to go to pursue your dream. Well, here’s your answer in one word: Canada.
Whether you opt to become a licensed practical or registered nurse, Canada offers first-class, accredited programs and endless employment opportunities if you choose to practise in that country. Let’s take a look at these two different types of nurses and the roles and qualifications for each.
Licensed Practical Nurse
A licensed practical nurse (also known as a registered practical nurse (Ontario) or licensed vocational nurse) provides basic care and helps patients with everyday tasks like bathing, eating and getting around. A two-year diploma program followed by a national licensing exam is required.
Registered Nurse
Being a registered nurse requires in-depth knowledge and greater proficiency in the delivery of health-care services. It also offers a broader range of options for practice through specialization in an area such as pediatrics, surgery or psychiatry. The course of study involves a four-year Bachelor or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Graduates must also pass a qualifying licensing exam.
