Here is how the new travel restrictions to Canada may affect you
On January 31, 2021, the Canadian government announced new travel restrictions impacting individuals who are travelling to Canada. The Canadian government and Canadian airlines have agreed to suspend all flights to and from Mexico and the Caribbean until 30 April 2021, to help curb the spread of COVID-19,
Other restrictions include:
- Pre-departure COVID-19 test: If you are traveling to Canada you must now take a COVID-19 test and present proof of a negative test result to the airline prior to boarding your flight. This test has to be taken within 72 hours of your arrival in Canada.
- Arrival COVID-19 test: Once you arrive in Canada you will need to take another COVID-19 molecular test at your own expense.
- Mandatory Quarantine: In addition to the requirements listed above, once you land in Canada you must reserve a room at a Canadian government-approved hotel at your own expense for a minimum of 3 days while you wait for the results of your COVID-19 test.
- Flights to designated airports: Starting February 3, 2021, you will only be able to fly to the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport, Calgary International Airport, and Vancouver International Airport.
More information will be made available in the coming weeks about these restrictions.
Please only make travel plans when you have obtained authorization to qualify to go to Canada under the new rules.
