| We recently wrote about the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, an exciting new federal immigration program aimed at attracting new immigrants to rural and northern communities in Canada. This five-year initiative will help match employers who are experiencing an acute labour shortage with skilled foreign workers. One of the 11 communities that has been chosen is North Bay, Ontario Here are 4 things to know about living in North Bay, Ontario: 1) Location: North Bay is centrally located in Ontario, 330 km (210 mi) north of Toronto. It is conveniently situated between Highway 11 and Highway 17 bordering on the Ottawa River. 2) Skills in Demand: The economy in North Bay is diverse and growing. Individuals with specific professions are needed to fill positions in the following areas:Health & Medical sectors Skilled Trades Engineering Information Technology Mining 3) Affordability: North Bay is an affordable place to live, for example the average cost of a home is approximately $380,000, whereas in Toronto the cost would be over $900,000. 4) Education: With elementary, secondary and two post-secondary institutions in North Bay, you are able to access quality education at every level.
