International Education Strategy Canada has just launched a new International Education Strategy aimed at diversifying the education sector, boosting Canada’s innovation capacity and promoting global ties
In 2018, more than 721,000 international students studied in Canada, the Government of Canada has stated that most international students are often ideal candidates for permanent residency. In fact, nearly 54,000 former students became permanent residents in Canada in 2018.
Concentration of Students Currently, more than 50% of Canada’s international students come from two countries, India and China. In addition, international students are also concentrated in large cities such as Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary and Montreal.
Diversifying the Sector The Strategy focuses on attracting students from a wider range of countries, as well as to a greater variety of regions and schools. For example schools such as Seneca College, University of British Columbia and University of Alberta are popular with international students. However schools such as New Brunswick Community College in Moncton, New Brunswick and Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba may offer international students smaller class sizes and friendly environments. The government wants to diversify the students who choose to study in Canada.
Other initiatives include providing additional scholarships for
international students to study in Canada which will be valued at $5 million
over 5 years.

Studying in Canada is an exciting and rewarding experience for many students from all over the world. Canada has one of the top-ranked education systems and one of the lowest education costs in the world. Students continually ask us how they can best fund their studies. In light of this, we are sharing our list of three creative ways to help you to fund your studies:
Loyalty Points
1) Loyalty Points: Two popular loyalty programs in Canada: Aeroplan (https://www.aircanada.com/aeroplan) and TD Bank Rewards (https://www.tdrewards.com/) offer their users the option of redeeming their points at several universities and colleges. Your friends and family in Canada can collect points on their TD Credit Card (https://www.tdrewards.com/) (for example) for activities that include travelling, shopping and purchasing gas. Points can then be redeemed in $250 dollar increments and these amounts can be transferred to your student account at your university or college. Participating institutions include: * The University of British Columbia * University of Waterloo * University of Toronto * Centennial College * Sheridan College * New Brunswick Community College

Crowdfunding
2) Crowdfunding: Crowdfunding sites including gofundme (https://www.gofundme.com/) allow persons to raise money from a large number of people in small amounts typically through social media. Some students have been able to raise upwards of $50,000 CAD for their tuition.
Essay Contests
3) Essay Contests: Organizations worldwide hold contests and competitions for students and many offer substantial prize money to those who win. These contests and competitions are free to enter. An example is the Optimist International Essay Contest (https://www.optimist.org/documents/programs/2019/Scholarship_Flyer_2018_2019.pdf) . Here students educated in Canada or abroad can submit a 700- to 800-word essay around a central idea. The winner receives a $2,500 USD scholarship. 5 Reasons Canadian Study Permit Applications are Refused
If you have been accepted to study at a university or college in Canada, this is an exciting time for you! Once you have received your letter of acceptance, the process of applying for the study permit can seem simple on the surface: fill out the forms, show proof of funds, pay the fee and submit your application.
Unfortunately not all study permit applications are approved. In 2016, 31% of all study permit applications submitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) were refused. The approval rate can vary based on the country of origin, for example IRCC approved 98% of study permit applications from Japan, whereas IRCC approved 17% of study permit applications from Ethiopia. These approval rates can also vary from year to year.
If a study permit application is refused, IRCC will typically provide a letter stating the reasons why it was refused. Some common reasons include an applicant’s inability to:
1. Show sufficient funds: IRCC will want to know that an applicant has sufficient funds to attend the school of their choice.
2. Pass the medical exam: If an applicant is required to take a medical exam and did not pass it, this can be a reason for refusal.
3. Convince the officer of the intention to study: If the visa officer is not convinced that an applicant intends to study in Canada, this can cast doubt on the application.
4. Produce an authentic travel document: If a travel document lacks authenticity then this can lead to a refusal.
5. Produce a letter from an approved institution: If an applicant did not submit a letter of acceptance from an approved Canadian educational institution, the application may be refused.
Preparing your study permit application can take a great deal of time and planning. Be certain to understand the reasons why your application may be refused before you apply. If your application has been refused, take the time to understand the reasons, so that you can improve your application when you re-apply.
