If you are applying for Canadian permanent residency, there are quite a number of activities and details to manage. Here are 5 common mistakes individuals often make when applying for Canadian permanent residence.

1. Using the incorrect NOC code
If you are applying for permanent residence through the Federal Skilled Worker program, you need to have experience in one of the 29 select occupations listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC). Choosing the right NOC code however is not always straightforward, as the descriptions for some codes can be quite similar. If you choose the wrong NOC code your application may be refused.

2. Inconsistent Personal, Educational or Employment History
Applications for permanent residence require individuals list in detail their employment history, personal history and educational history. Sometimes applicants are not consistent with dates for the same period. It is crucial that you ensure that all of your dates and information align.

3. Miscalculating Points
There are certain immigration programs, including several Provincial Nominee Programs, that give applicants points for education, language proficiency and work history. You will need to know the exact number of points you qualify for, as miscalculating these points can result in the possible refusal of your application.

4. Insufficient Language Test Scores:

Recently, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador published a list of designated employers who are eligible to employ foreign workers under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Programme. With a population of approximately 560,000, here is what you need to know about living in province:

1. Cost of living:
The province offers newcomers a high quality of life due to its relatively low cost of living compared to other parts of Canada. For example, the cost of renting a 2 bedroom apartment in Corner Brook, Newfoundland is approximately $800 CAD/month, whereas the cost of renting a similar sized apartment in Toronto can cost up to $2,900 CAD/month.

2. Economy:
Like the other Atlantic provinces, the major industries include Mining, Fishing, Forest-based industries and Aquaculture. Many people are also employed in other areas including government services, education, retail and support services.

3. Schools:
The province offers a complete public school program available in both English and French for students from kindergarten to Grade 12. Children begin school when they are about 5 years and usually finish when they are about 18 years.

4. Health Care:
Residents of the province are eligible for the Medical Care Plan (MCP) which is a comprehensive plan of medical care insurance designed to cover the cost of physician services for bona fide residents of the province.

Are you looking for work in Canada? The provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador has published the list of designated employers taking part in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP). The provincial government is now urging foreign nationals to contact these employers directly regarding vacancies they may have.

The AIPP fast-tracks the hiring of suitable foreign workers by designated employers. Once a worker is hired, they will collaborate with a designated settlement service provider to develop a settlement plan. An eligible worker can then apply for permanent residency for themselves and their family.

Newfoundland has just released a list of designated employers who are allowed to hire foreign nationals under the program. To take advantage of this information:

Background
