Visitor Visa
Every year, millions of people visit Canada to sight see or to visit family and friends. Individuals from specific countries, require a visitor visa, however not all individuals who apply for a visa will be approved. This article will explore five reasons why a Canadian visitor visa application may be denied:
- Incomplete application: This may sound simple, however you have to fill the application forms completely. Missing information or a missing signature may result in a refusal.
- Unclear length and purpose of trip: Even though you can stay up to 6 months in Canada on a visitor visa, the visa officer will want to know that the purpose of your visit make sense and is plausible.
- Lack of funds: When you apply for your visa, you will need to show that you have sufficient funds to support your stay. If you do not have sufficient funds for the length of your stay, this may result in a refusal.
- Loose connections to home country: The visa officer needs to be convinced that your stay in Canada will be temporary. One of the aspects that the visa officer will look at is if there are strong connections to your home country.
- Providing misleading or false information: It is important that you provide accurate and truthful information on your application forms. If the visa officer discovers that you provided misleading or false information, you may be denied from entering Canada for a specific period of time.
On any immigration application, there is no guarantee of success, however if you take note of these reasons you may give your application an improved chance of receiving an approval.

Stuck in the Express Entry Pool?
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry (EE) is an online immigration application system that allows individuals to submit a profile and potentially be considered a skilled immigrant by Canada. Candidates with the highest rankings are invited to apply for permanent residency in Canada. In the Express Entry pool applicants are scored and given points based on factors that include:
* Education;
* Language Skills (English or French) and
* Work Experience
I entered the system but I am stuck in the pool!
If you submitted an Express Entry profile, you may know that if you do not receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency within 12 months, your profile expires.
Here are a few scenarios of individuals we have come across:
Stacy K. has 348 points and has been in the pool for 7 months. She is concerned that she won’t receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency.
Brenda K. and her husband have 417 points and have been in the pool for 10 months, she is concerned that her profile will expire without receiving an invitation.
What can I do?
If you are in the pool and have not been offered an invitation to apply, here is what you can do:
1) Develop a strategy immediately to improve your points, this can include securing a valid job offer or improving your education
2) Be ready to implement 2 or 3 alternatives if your initial plan does not work
3) Don’t allow your profile to languish for months, set a deadline for when you plan to take action
It is easy to enter the pool, however you want to ensure that you exit the pool with an invitation to apply it is best to take action soon.

Are you looking for work in Canada now?
Are you looking for work in Canada? The provincial government of Prince Edward Island has published the list of designated employers taking part in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP). The provincial government is now urging foreign nationals to contact these employers directly regarding vacancies they may have.
The AIP fast-tracks the hiring of suitable foreign workers by designated employers. Once a worker is hired, they will collaborate with a designated settlement service provider to develop a settlement plan. An eligible worker can then apply for permanent residency for themselves and their family.

Prince Edward Island has released a list of designated employers who are allowed to hire foreign nationals under the program. To take advantage of this information:

This strategy includes the Atlantic Immigration Pilot program, a 3-year immigration pilot whereby up to 2,000 new immigrants and their families will be welcomed to the region.

Are you a teacher migrating to Canada?
If you are a teacher planning to migrate to Canada here are 3 things you need to know:
1) Certification
To teach in Canada you must be eligible for a teaching certificate in the province where you want to teach. Teaching in Ontario for example means applying for teacher certification there. If you move to another province (eg. Alberta), you will then need to apply for a separate teaching certificate in that province. Each province has its own rules and regulations.
Certification in any province is divided into three parts: Showing proof:
a) of teaching qualifications;
b) of teaching experience;
c) that you are certified to teach in your country and this certification has not been suspended or cancelled.
2) Job Search
Most jobs for the start of the next school year are advertised beginning in mid-April until June. As is to be expected, jobs in the urban areas have a lot of competition and you are more likely to be hired if you are willing to work in rural areas. We have heard from teachers that it is easier for them to find teaching jobs in rural Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan than in cities such as Toronto, Winnipeg and Saskatoon.
3) Your Resume
Because you are starting a new experience you will have to ensure you have an up-to-date resume that highlights your best qualities. Showing that you are up-to-date in current teaching trends and that you participate in a range of extra-curricular activities can go a long way in helping you get hired.
Finally, ask someone who is in-the-know for advice regarding your resume, cover letter and how you may best prepare yourself for a job in Canada. This small act may pay off in big ways.

Studying in Canada is an exciting and rewarding experience for many students from all over the world. Canada has one of the top-ranked education systems and one of the lowest education costs in the world.
Students continually ask us how they can best fund their studies. In light of this, we are sharing our list of three creative ways to help you to fund your studies:
Loyalty Points

1) Loyalty Points: Two popular loyalty programs in Canada: Aeroplan (https://www3.aeroplan.com/home.do) and TD Bank Rewards (https://www.tdrewards.com/) offer their users the option of redeeming their points at several universities and colleges. Your friends and family in Canada can collect points on their TD Credit Card (https://www.tdrewards.com/) (for example) for activities that include travelling, shopping and purchasing gas. Points can then be redeemed in $250 dollar increments and these amounts can be transferred to your student account at your university or college.
Participating institutions include:
* The University of British Columbia
* University of Waterloo
* University of Toronto
* Centennial College
* Sheridan College
* New Brunswick Community College

Crowdfunding

2) Crowdfunding: Crowdfunding sites including gofundme (https://www.gofundme.com/) allow persons to raise money from a large number of people in small amounts typically through social media. Some students have been able to raise upwards of $50,000 CAD for their tuition.
Essay Contests

3) Essay Contests: Organizations worldwide hold contests and competitions for students and many offer substantial prize money to those who win. These contests and competitions are free to enter. An example is the Optimist International Essay Contest (https://www.optimist.org/documents/programs/2019/Scholarship_Flyer_2018_2019.pdf) . Here students educated in Canada or the Caribbean can submit a 700- to 800-word essay around a central idea. The winner receives a $2,500 USD scholarship.
Overall, finding the financial resources to study in Canada may appear to be daunting or impossible at first, however with a bit of planning and research, students can utilize creative and inventive ways to fund their studies in Canada.
