Canada Revamps Minimum Financial Requirements for Express Entry Programs
On July 7, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced an update to the funds required for foreign nationals seeking to immigrate to Canada. Applicants aiming for permanent residence (PR) under two of the Express Entry programs will now need at least $500 more than before.
For a single applicant, the required minimum funds have increased from $14,690 to $15,263. The updated financial requirements apply specifically to those applying under the following programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). It is crucial for all applicants to have written documentation proving they possess these funds. To remain eligible, they must update their proof of funds in their Express Entry profiles by July 28, 2025.
Here’s a summary of the new financial requirements effective from July 7, 2025:
| Family Size | Required Funds ($CAD) | Previous Requirement ($CAD) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $15,263 | $14,690 |
| 2 | $19,001 | $18,288 |
| 3 | $23,360 | $22,483 |
| 4 | $28,362 | $27,297 |
| 5 | $32,168 | $30,690 |
| 6 | $36,280 | $34,917 |
| 7 | $40,392 | $38,875 |
| Each additional family member | $4,112 | $3,958 |
It’s worth noting that these minimum fund requirements are adjusted annually based on 50% of the low-income cut-off totals.
Who is exempt from showing proof of funds? Individuals applying through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or those with a valid job offer and authorization to work in Canada do not need to provide proof of funds. Nevertheless, keeping these funds updated in an Express Entry profile is advisable, as it may enable eligibility for more than one program.
The size of a family for the purposes of this requirement includes the applicant, their spouse or common-law partner, and any dependent children. Even if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, all must be included in the application.
For proof of funds, applicants must submit official letters from financial institutions. These letters should include essential details such as account balances, outstanding debts, and verification that the funds are accessible.
In conclusion, as Canada continues to adapt its immigration policies, it is crucial for aspiring immigrants to stay informed about these changes. Understanding the updated minimum fund requirements is vital for securing a successful application through the Express Entry programs.
