Background
In July 2016 the Government of Canada, along with the four Atlantic provincial governments, launched the Atlantic Growth Strategy, a strategy to stimulate economic development in the Atlantic provinces. This strategy includes the Atlantic Immigration Pilot program, a 3-year immigration pilot whereby up to 2,000 new immigrants and their families will be welcomed to the region.
The AIP fast-tracks the hiring of suitable foreign workers by designated employers. Once a worker is hired, they will collaborate with a designated settlement service provider to develop a settlement plan. An eligible worker can then apply for permanent residency for themselves and their family.
