There are several pathways to PR, and choosing the right one for your profile is the most important decision in the process. Each pathway has its own requirements. Your age, education, language ability, work experience and connections to Canada determine which ones may be open to you.
Canada’s online system for skilled workers, covering three programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. Candidates are ranked by CRS score; the highest-ranked receive invitations to apply.
Each province runs its own streams targeting the workers it needs. A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your Express Entry score, effectively securing an invitation, or can lead to PR directly through non-Express Entry streams.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and in some cases parents and grandparents.
Canadian study can lead to a post-graduation work permit, and Canadian work experience opens the Canadian Experience Class and many provincial streams. A long game, but a proven one.
Express Entry ranks every candidate with the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), out of 1,200 points. Small improvements, a better language test result, an extra credential assessed, can move you hundreds of places in the pool.
